The Last of Us - 10/10

Overview

The Last of Us released way back in June 2013 on PS3, however, it is ICONIC for all the Playstation gamers out there, and if you - like me - are a huge fan of Zombies then this game will be perfect for you. It's was remastered in 2014 for the PS4, this basically just meant upgraded graphics and a smoother frame rate.

If you were to buy it today from CEX it would cost you £10, which for a game that offers 16 hours of gameplay if you focus on just the story you're definitely going to get your moneys worth. Even better if you're looking to platinum the game then you're going to get approximately 22 hours of gameplay! What makes it even better value is that all 16 hours are filled with content that will keep you hooked.

Gameplay

The Last of Us is a story game, set in the post apocalyptic world of 2033, following two protagonists on their journey across a beautiful yet deadly America. It's hard to tell who's worse, the mad and ravenous zombies or the insane living that have resorted to violence to get whatever they need. From the very beginning the story is an emotional rollercoaster, with many twists and turns that will keep anyone interested.

I learnt the hard way that guns blazing is definitely the worst choice you can make in this crazy world, where the best choices are either sneaking around everyone or silently taking them down from behind. Plus, all guns blazing is kind of difficult when you only have 6 rounds in your gun with 10 bad guys! Once you've learnt the best tactics in the game, then it becomes super rewarding to breeze through the levels taking on anything that is thrown in your path with ease.

Graphics & Environment

When The Last of Us came out in 2013 it was one of the best games graphically to release on PS3, and then again on PS4. However, comparing it to the graphical masterpieces that have released on PS5, such as Horizon Forbidden West or Gran Turismo 7, it really shows its age. It still has moments where it shines however, these mostly come in cut scenes or when the game chooses to push itself. However, what the game does do perfectly is blend beauty with danger, with peaceful moments of beauty only moments away from the ever present threat of death.

My verdict

I love The Last of Us, and it was one of the first story games I ever constantly played from start to finish in 3/4 hour long stints. It is AMAZING. If you haven't already played it, then you need to pick this game up now and play it through, especially considering the value for money you would be getting.
