Story 10/10

Horizon Forbidden West's story takes off from where Zero Dawn ended, meaning, if like me, you've replayed the whole of Zero Dawn in preparation for this it's a seamless cross over between games. However, where Zero Dawn fell down on its lack of 'humanlike' interaction and its lonely take on Aloy's adventures, Forbidden West really improves, with side quests that actually have meaning, all with unique endings and engaging characters. The main story well and truly blows Zero Dawn out of the water, with a much less lonely adventure with many allies and friends to meet along the way, all with interesting back stories.

Gameplay 9/10

When the gameplay works - and when it's had a few updates I'm sure this will be a 10 - Forbidden West is a marvellous and unique game that challenges you even on the easiest settings! When it comes to taking down even the smallest machines you need to be tactful or risk being overwhelmed by attacks from what feels like EVERYWHERE. This in turn means that every battle, no matter if you're taking down a small machine like a Burrower to taking down a literal Mammoth of a war machine, you're going to come away feeling a great sense of reward.

Environment 10/10

This is without a doubt, one of the most stunning environments I have ever seen in a videogame. In my time with the game so far I've taken well over a 100 photos, it doesn't matter if you're taking a picture from the top of a mountain or taking a close up of Aloy, the level of detail is PHENOMENAL, just take a moment to go into photo mode and zoom in at Aloy, and see the creases on her lips as she smiles! When you're actually playing the game it's incredible also, you can feel the grass as it brushes against you through the haptic feedback on the Dualsense controller, and feel the bow string tighten as you pull it through the adaptive triggers.

Buy it or Leave it?

Without a doubt, BUY IT, you won't regret it. It will go down as one of the greatest ever Playstation Exclusives.

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more!

Wow this review makes me want to play this game even though I am not a gamer and have no idea about PS4! Sounds like you are really immersed in the environment and reminds me of the new theme park rides I have been lucky enough to go on in Orlando, FL, where you feel like you are really part of another world.

I can't believe the progress of gaming in just my lifetime! AMAZING! What on earth will the future bring! :O
